I went out to corner my team mate Ulysses Gomez in San Antonio Texas for his MMA fight in Bellator Mixed Martial Arts Championships. ‘
For those of you who don’t know, Ulysses is the younger brother of U.S. World Cup soccer star Herculez Gomez.

Travis Reddinger vs. Ulysses Gomez
Round 1
Gomez lands a sharp leg kick to start the action. Redding responds with leg kicks of his own. Gomez responds back with his own leg kick. Another sharp leg kick by Gomez as both fighters are cautious. Gomez snaps a leg kick and Reddinger rushes forward with strikes. Gomez lowers his level and scores a double leg takedown. Gomez is in full guard and is unable to score with punches. Reddinger works his way back to his feet and rushes Gomez to the cage fence. Gomez clamps in a standing guillotine and brings Reddinger down to the mat with it. Reddinger fights it off and breaks the choke. Gomez works his way back to his feet off the cage wall. The fighters are now trading punches in the clinch. Gomez lowers his level and scores another double leg takedown as the round comes to an end.
Round 2
Reddinger rushes forward again with strikes and Gomez lands another double leg takedown to counter the attack. Gomez postures up and begins landing kicks to Reddinger’s thigh. Gomez continues to land blazing kicks to the grounded Reddinger. Gomez finally slows the assault and Reddinger rises to his feet. Reddinger grabs a clinch, but Gomez reverses Reddinger into the cage. Reddinger reverses it back as the fighters trade knees. Gomez lands an outside trip and scores another takedown. Gomez postures up and pulls away, letting Reddinger get back up. Big overhand right by Gomez, but Reddinger shakes it off. Gomez is keeping his distance as Reddinger walks him down. The fighters are in the clinch and Gomez lowers his level to score another double leg takedown as the round comes to an end.
Round 3
Reddinger shows some urgency and misses with a few punches. Reddinger continues to push forward but is struggling to find the mark. Gomez grabs a clinch as they tussle along the cage. Back to center, Gomez lands a right answered by a Reddinger knee. Gomez rushes forward and scores another takedown. Gomez is unable to make a pass from full guard and stands up, shifting back to his leg kick assault to the grounded Reddinger. Gomez lets Reddinger up, Reddinger rushes forward and Gomez takes him right back down to the canvas. Gomez continues to struggle inside Reddinger’s guard and lets him back up. Reddinger lands a knee and Gomez lowers his level to score another takedown. Reddinger has an arm bar, but it isn’t tight. Reddinger transitions to a triangle, but can’t seem to close it out. Reddinger transitions back to an arm bar, but again Gomez is able to work his way out of the submission attempt and stands up as the bell calls an end to the fight.
