Chael Sonnen Double Leg Takedown

Chael Sonnen Double Leg Takedown

King David here

I was listening to an audio where Chael Sonnen talk about effective wrestling for MMA and he claims that the single leg is almost useless in MMA and the most effective shot is the double leg takedown

Chael Sonnen Double Leg Takedown

Chael Sonnon’s thought are that the single leg is ineffective in MMA and most wrestling moves are ineffective as well because of the difference in the rules and that wrestlers are successful in MMA because they’re thought athletic guys who are used to pushing through pain and adversity

He also says its easier to defend a takedown than it is to score one and thats why the double leg is better than the single..

Chael also talks about Greco Roman wrestlers success in MMA and UFC and says its because the Greco Roman wrestling posture is closer to MMA posture than freestyle or other forms of wrestling.

I found the interview really interesting and I think Chael makes a lot of sense you can check out the whole interview here

I’ve been wrestling a lot at Xtreme Couture in Vegas and I think what Chaels saying makes a lot of sense ..

Chael Sonnen’s Double Leg Takedown is one of the best in MMA and I’ve been wondering how he and GSP blast through guys the way they do

Which is really odd considering GSP never “formally” wrestled but Chael addresses that too and compares GSP’s double leg to Mike Tyson’s uppercut

He says that the best guys are REALLY good at a limited number of things…

Anyway I’m off to bed I’ve been awake all night

Announced: Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz

Just saw this on MMAjunkie.com and thought I’d share

Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz set for UFC 137 in Las Vegas

GSP

GSP

The hurdles have apparently been cleared.

Despite his recent insistence that a bout between current UFC champion Georges St-Pierre (22-2 MMA, 16-2 UFC) and Strikeforce title holder Nick Diaz (25-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC) was anything but a done deal, UFC president Dana White today announced the two welterweights will clash in the main event of the previously unannounced UFC 137 event.

According to White, the UFC welterweight title contest will take place Oct. 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Fans began to clamor for the matchup when St-Pierre disposed of Diaz’s teammate, Jake Shields, at April’s UFC 129 event. With the March acquisition of Strikeforce by the UFC’s parent company, fans called for the transition of the Strikeforce champ to the UFC ranks.

While declining to address the barriers specifically, White continuously deflected questions regarding the probability of the matchup.

Until now.

St-Pierre carries an impressive nine-fight win streak into the matchup and has dropped just one fight, an April 2007 upset at the hands of Matt Serra, in his past 16 outings.

Meanwhile, Diaz fights for the first time in the octagon since his 2006 release from the promotion. Diaz has gone 11-1, including a current 10-fight win streak.

White wasn’t immediately available for comment, and it’s unknown what, if anything, the promotion offered to Strikeforce’s broadcast partners at Showtime in order to pull Diaz to the UFC. White also did not detail what lies in store for Strikeforce’s welterweight title, which Diaz could potentially vacate before entering the octagon.

Diaz’s manager, Cesar Gracie, did today tell USA Today that the St-Pierre fight is part of a new eight-fight contract for Diaz that allows the current Strikeforce champ to compete in both Strikeforce and the UFC.

Is Roy “Big Country” Nelson PSYCHIC Or Just FAT?

Roy Nelson admits he’s fat.. but is he PSYCHIC? Brock Lesnar pulled out of UFC 131

But “Big Country” said some things back in January predicting this.. that we’re pretty controversial at the time.. here’s what he said:

Roy Nelson

Roy Nelson

“I think Brock Lesnar is done,” Nelson said. “I think Brock doing TUF is one way to basically take a situation and make it win-win for him. I think Lesnar doing the show is a way to introduce Junior Dos Santos to the American fan base in the way the show does. TUF introduces “stars in the making” to the casual UFC fan and while JDS is the number one contender he still needs some help with the American fan base. So the conspiracy basically comes down to the fact that Shane Carwin has no one to fight in June. I think Brock Lesnar will walk off the TUF set and then Carwin will take his spot..”

That’s a pretty controversial thing to say back in January.. but now it’s coming true.. So my question to you is this

He admits he’s fat.. but is Roy Nelson PSYCHIC? Or is all this just a coincidence?

Here’s the full article for you.. you be the judge

Full article from BloodyElbow.com: This post is by Duane Finley but he is traveling and unable to post himself.

“I think Brock Lesnar is done,” Nelson said. “I think Brock doing TUF is one way to basically take a situation and make it win-win for him. shane carwin

So the conspiracy basically comes down to the fact that Shane Carwin has no one to fight in June. I think Brock Lesnar will walk off the TUF set and then Carwin will take his spot or Frank Mir will come in to “save the day” and fight JDS for title contention. The reason I believe Frank would be the guy is because Mir is coming off a win and I was already supposed to fight Shane so fans were already hyped to see it. Or Carwin could move in to face JDS and I could still face Frank but it doesn’t really matter to me as to who fights who because all that really matters is the fans want to see me fight somebody. A lot of things could happen over the next six weeks but it seems a bit off that Carwin doesn’t have an opponent right now and all of the top heavyweights are spoken for.”

Nelson continued, “As for the other rumor or “story” that has been floating around out there saying that I turned down a fight with Shane Carwin…that isn’t true. I was never offered the Carwin fight after UFC 125 but it’s like I always say if you want to know the truth about me go to www.roynelson.com and joing The Country Club or follow me @RoyNelsonmma.”

UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson spoke to Bloody Elbow’s Duane Finley about his conspiracy theory regarding the recent announcement of the next TUF coaches. Nelson, who is rumored to be fighting at UFC 130 in May, finds it strange that Shane Carwin’s next bout has been announced but an opponent is yet to be named. The entire heavyweight divisional structure has been turned on its side as bouts between Nelson and Carwin in addition to Dos Santos and champion Cain Velasquez have all been scratched due to fighter injury. Dos Santos made it clear to the UFC that he was not willing to wait around for Velasquez to recover from surgery. In turn the UFC apparently found a way to convince recently dethroned and famously reclusive Lesnar into not only taking the Dos Santos fight, but agreeing to be filmed for six weeks in Las Vegas.

From UFC.com

Brock Lesnar released a statement on the matter, declaring that he was not retiring, and that this was just a ‘speed bump’.

“I want to thank the UFC and Mr. White and I want to apologize to Junior Dos Santos and Spike TV. This is an unfortunate situation for me. I dodged a bullet about two years ago with diverticulitis at that time not knowing what the problem was. I dodged a bullet by not having the surgery. diverticulitis is an illness that never goes away. It’s something that I’ve dealt with since my first occurrence and I’ve been battling. It’s something that’s in your colon for the rest of your life. I’ve been able to maintain it to the point where it was tolerable. I was able to go through two training camps for Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez and I made it through those camps without having any symptoms and I’ve been dealing with symptoms for the last three months.”

“I felt a little bit while I was filming the Ultimate Fighter and the only way to treat the symptoms is by getting on antibiotics and allowing the antibiotics to take its course and fight the infection. During the course of this training camp, I felt another infection. I got a CT scan on my stomach and there was visible inflation. What it does is it didn’t allow me to train to my full capabilities and I was forced to make a decision to go back down to the doctor this week to see how far this was along and what it does is it drains my entire body. Basically you’ve got an infection in your stomach and all my resources went to fighting this problem instead of rebuilding what I tore down in the gym.”

“It’s not as serious as last time, it just didn’t allow me to train the way I needed to train for a number one contender’s bout. I am forced with the decision to either have surgery or deal with this for the rest of my life so obviously I’m fighting a different fight here than having to give up the fight on June 11th. A lot of things go through your mind as an athlete especially for myself. This is something that has been wearing on me for about a month now and different thoughts come to your mind. It wouldn’t be fair to myself or my family or the people I perform in front of in the Octagon. I wouldn’t have been 100% because I’m not there now and I had to make the decision this week to give the UFC enough time and I have enough respect for them to understand that I don’t want to jeopardize. My health is number one. My family is number one and it was a hard decision. I’m choked up about it and there’s nothing I can do.”

“I’ll tell you one thing. I’m not retiring. This isn’t the end of my fight career. This is something that I believe that there is a solution to every problem. I just have to find the right solution to fix this problem. I love this sport and I love what I do. This isn’t the end of Brock Lesnar. This is a speed bump in the road and trust me, I’ve incurred a lot of speed bumps throughout my career and this is one of them. Instead of not facing the music, I’m here telling everybody because I’ve been here before and I want to make it all known. I want to state that this is not the end of my career. Far from it.”

“I’ve got to follow up with my doctors and weigh the risk and rewards (of surgery) … I was at the Mayo Clinic for 14 hours yesterday with doctors and CT scans trying to figure everything out … We’re waiting on a number of different tests to come back. We haven’t even had the conversation. Today to June 11th, I can’t be well enough prepared to face Junior Dos Santos so that was the first thing I had to address and pull out of this fight because it didn’t make any sense. I have three weeks of training camp and I’m no where that I need to be right now for a number one contender’s fight. I’ve got more doctor’s appointments to follow up with. I don’t know the risks if there are any. It has to be better than what I’ve been dealing with the last two years. I’m looking for the light at the end of the tunnel is what I’m looking out for.”

“I believe that I haven’t been ‘that guy.’ Even in my comeback fight against Shane Carwin, I felt ok but I’d say that maybe I was 85 or 90%. The Velasquez fight was just pushing myself to another limit. I told my wife and everybody else around about a week ago that ‘I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired.’ We’ve got to find the solution to this. The fighter inside of me, the person that I am, doesn’t want to back down from a fight. My health and my family are more important than stepping in the Octagon. I don’t care how much money, they could throw all the money in the world. The one thing I have found out through all this is that my family, if you don’t have your health and your family, you don’t have diddly squat.”

Will Randy Couture REALLY retire?

randy-couture

randy-couture

King David here. In case you missed it Randy Couture fought this past weekend at UFC 129 but got “crane kicked” KO’ed by former 205lb UFC Champion Lyoto Machida.

Many people feel he will retire after this loss.. and he announced his retirement… but he’s announced his retirement before and came back..

So what do you think? Will he hang up the gloves for good? He’s still a BIG MONEY draw for the UFC.. Will Dana White make him an offer (a payday) he can’t refuse?

Here’s what Randy himself has to say to sportsillustrated.cnn.com

Randy Couture said he was never more certain about retirement than when he exited Toronto’s Rogers Centre Arena as a professional fighter for the 30th and final time at UFC 129 on Saturday.

“There wasn’t a sentimentality about it. There was kind of a sense of relief,” said Couture, who took his final bow in the Octagon after former champion Lyoto Machida knocked him out with a rarely seen crane kick in the second round. “I felt like it was the right decision long before this and I felt more secure walking out that this is the right time and the right thing for me to be doing. There was no doubt in my head.”

While touched by the heartfelt reaction he got — which began when he heard his name being chanted as he waited to enter the arena — Couture said it wouldn’t sway his decision to walk away from competition.

“Definitely, it’s the last fight,” he said from Toronto on Sunday. “I know they’re going to try to throw me something and get me to come back, but it’s not going to happen.”

Here’s a video by thefightnetwork talking to him about the fight and his possible retirement
